The Kids Count® Online Classroom expands our award-winning Kids Count® financial literacy program for elementary students with a set of fun, interactive web-based activities that reinforce key lessons and bring the program to life for students.
All activities take place in the friendly town of NickelsburgTM where kids count as they move around the community and learn important money management lessons.
An easy-to-use Teacher Panel makes it simple for teachers to set up a virtual classroom, control the pace of lessons, monitor learning, and evaluate student progress. A Teacher’s Manual and Video Demo are available to guide you through this simple process.
ACTIVITIES
NickelsburgTM includes five modules that each take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Once an account is set up, students can log in and out and play the modules over multiple sessions. NickelsburgTM modules are mapped to Indiana educational standards in math, reading and economics for third, fourth and fifth grades.
Module One: Goals and Priorities
Students prioritize short and long-term goals and differentiate between wants and needs.
Module Two: Budgeting
Students explore a personal budget and evaluate spending habits.
Module Three: Family Financial Literacy
Students learn how daily functions affect a family budget.
Lessons can extend learning into the home through My Family CountsTM family-focused activity book.
Module Four: Giving
Students explore a range of philanthropic activities and ways to share their time, talent or treasure.
Module Five: Banking Transactions
Students evaluate savings options and carry out simple banking transactions, i.e., endorse and deposit a check, make a withdrawal, and verify a bank statement.
How to Access NickelsburgTM
Teacher Registration.
- Select Enter Nickelsburg button (on the left) to go to the main login page.
- Select Teacher Registration button at the bottom and complete the registration form.
Once registered, simply set up your our classroom in the Teacher Panel by entering students (assign user names and passwords), activate optional pre/post tests and you're on your way to creating a fun learning experience for your children.
Student Registration. If you are under 13 years old, you must have a parent or guardian register for you. Create a user name, password, provide an e-mail address and you're all set to have fun. Select Enter Nickelsburg button (on the left) to go to the main login page. Select Student Registration button at the bottom.
NOTE: Results from accounts created through Student Registration are NOT stored nor are they available for review in the Teacher Control Panel.
