What:     Kids Count on the Money Bus Workshop

When:    August 27, 2009

Where:  Region 6 Northwest Indiana Education Center, 2939 41st Street, Highland, IN  46322

Time:    8:30 a.m. -- 3:00 p.m. 

 

The focus of this one-day free workshop is to provide elementary teachers with resources to broaden their own knowledge of personal financial management, and improve their effectiveness in teaching this important topic in their 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms.

 

Agenda at a Glance:

9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Workshop

 

Each workshop participant will receive a program package including:

  • Kids Count: The Road to Financial LiteracyTM curriculum with 15 units mapped to Indiana standards in math, economics and reading, teacher instructions, a short multiple choice pre-post test, master copies of student activity sheets and a special unit called All AboardTM which prepares students specifically for a Money Bus visit.
  • My Family CountsTM activity book full of family-focused lessons that extend the learning into the home.
  • Kids Count: The Fun Game of Dollars and SenseTM a useful resource for any classroom.  This board game reinforces core concepts of financial literacy as well as basic math, reading and problem solving skills needed to build important life skills in money management. 

 

During the program, participants will engage in multiple activities to:

  • Enhance their understanding of financial literacy education and its application to teaching elementary age students;
  • Explore personal approaches to money management and implications for teaching;
  • Examine Kids Count: The Road to Financial LiteracyTM curriculum and connect financial literacy to other content areas;
  • Examine My Family CountsTM activity book, a family involvement component;
  • Experience the Money Bus Banking Center and On-Board Exhibits;
  • Practice using the Kids Count: The Fun Game of Dollars and SenseTM; and,
  • Build an action plan for integrating the Kids Count on the Money BusTM program into classroom lesson plans. 

 

Presenters:  Dr. Priscilla Wolfe, Director of Education, and Sandra Brigando, Financial Literacy Coordinator, Networks Financial Institute at Indiana State University.
